<p>Katerini is a vocal teacher, singer and music therapist in the Cairns area. Katerini is originally from Brisbane where she did her studies in opera singing at the conservatorium of music.</p>
<p>She pursued this for a little while but found her niche in helping people through music&#8230;.</p>
<p>Katerini later went on to complete her masters in music therapy and the year after moved to tropical Cairns. She is currently teaching voice to many primary and secondary aged students as well as a few adults.</p>
<p>Music therapy focuses on using music to help people work through their past and present. Katerini has a great interest in the link between voice and our personal power. The voice is so intertwined with our souls and regaining and harnessing its power can lead us to find new energy and power within ourselves.</p>
<p>Katerini is currently using music therapy to help children who have experience trauma and often finds the voice as an important tool in their recovery.</p>
<p>I look forward to joining you and Katerini at our meeting on Tuesday, 28th October.</p>

<p>One of the group members has kindly offered the Women&#8217;s Health &amp; Happiness Group the use of one of the rooms in her home in Whitfield.  So beginning with our first meeting in October (October 14), we will meet there.</p>
<p>I&#8217;ll share her address at the meeting on September 30th (which will be at our old location at Greenslopes &amp; Little Streets in Edge Hill).  I will also contact individuals who have made a strong commitment to the group and let them know of the new location.</p>

Tuesday night 6:45pm at the Cairns Yoga Academy corner of Greenslopes and Little Streets</p>
<h3>Empower Yourself With Simple Self-Defence Techniques</h3>
<p>Learning self defence is a fun way to increase your confidence and get fit. On Tuesday, 23rd September martial arts expert Allan Sealey will reveal simple and precise self defence techniques.</p>
<p>Come ready to have fun and participate in this interactive self-defense session:</p>
<ul>
<li>Wear comfortable, loose clothing</li>
<li>Wear shoes that are easy to move in or go barefoot during the session</li>
<li>Be prepared to relax and have fun</li>
</ul>
<p>Allan is a highly experienced martial artist and holds a black belt in Tae Kwon Do, is 1st Dan in Goju Kai karate and 2nd Dan in Goju Ryu karate. He teaches Self Defence at the YMCA Smithfield on Tuesday mornings and at YMCA Redlynch Friday evenings.</p>
<p>I know Allan will help you feel more confident and aware in any situation.</p>
<p>Also at this meeting of the Women&#8217;s Health and Happiness Group we&#8217;ll have more:</p>

<p style="text-align: left;">In my years of training and experience as a yoga teacher and yoga therapist I&#8217;ve learned how profoundly your breath and your voice are linked to how you feel&#8230; and to how you feel about yourself&#8230;</p>
<ul>
<li> Your breath is a powerful indicator of how you feel mentally and physically - and by changing your breath you can have remarkable influence over you body and mind.</li>
<li>Adding sound to your breath magnifies your breath&#8217;s influence over your whole system</li>
<li> And adding meaning to that sound creates yet another extraordinary layer to affect your body, mind, energy and emotions.</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: left;">Chanting uses your breath, sound and meaning and is a powerful and fundamental tool of yoga.</p>
<p style="text-align: left;">Tuesday night I will uncover some of the mysteries of yoga chanting, including:</p>
<ul>
<li> How to calm or energize yourself with sound</li>
<li> Which aspects of chanting you can vary to get the results you desire</li>
<li> Some ancient yoga chants and their meanings</li>
</ul>
<p style="text-align: left;">I trained as a yoga teacher and yoga therapist with Gary Kraftsow, founder of the highly respected American Viniyoga Institute in the US.  After 4 years of study, I&#8217;m the only person in Australia certified by Gary to teach this highly adaptable, thorough approach to yoga.</p>

Starting in October we&#8217;re switching from weekly meetings to fortnightly meetings (every-other week).</p>

We start at 7pm and doors open at 6:45.</p>

<p>In October and November, the Women&#8217;s Health &amp; Happiness Group will meet at the Serbian Cultural Centre at 73 Greenslopes Street in Edge Hill.</p>

She holds regular Sacred Sound Meditations and Personal Sessions and Tuesday night she will share with us an experience of Sound with a short meditation.</p>

<p>In my years of training and experience as a yoga teacher and yoga therapist I&#8217;ve learned how profoundly your breath and your voice are linked to how you feel&#8230; and to how you feel about yourself&#8230;</p>
<ul>
<li>Your breath is a powerful 	indicator of how you feel mentally and physically - and by 	changing your breath you can have remarkable influence over you body 	and mind.</li>
<li>Adding sound to your breath 	magnifies your breath&#8217;s influence over your whole system</li>
<li>And adding meaning to that sound 	creates yet another extraordinary layer to affect your body, mind, 	energy and emotions.</li>
</ul>
<p>That&#8217;s why I asked Vocal Educator and Speech &amp; Language Pathologist Gail Rogers to share fun and practical techniques for uncovering the power of your voice.</p>
<p>On Tuesday night Gail will reveal the power of bringing your awareness to your breath and:</p>

<li>How 	to be heard.  Discover a simple breathing technique that will give 	you a clear, resonant voice capable of filling a room&#8230;</li>
<li>The 	fundamentals to enjoying a lifetime of excellent vocal health&#8230;</li>

<p>Gail Rogers has helped Far North Queensland-ers find healthier voices for over 20 years.  In addition to treating voice problems due to medical conditions, overuse, stress and emotional conditions Gail trains professional voice users how to get tip-top performance from their voice.</p>

<p>Sunny Moss is a highly respected massage specialist with over 20 years experience.  She began massage with a 3-year course of study at Mt Lawley TAFE in Perth for 3 years and with ongoing training is qualified in Shiatsu, Aromatherapy, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Polarity, Foot Reflexology and Sports massage as well as full facial massage.</p>
